What is Diwali
Diwali, often called the Festival of Lights, is India’s most cherished celebration. It marks the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair. Families across India and the world decorate their homes with oil lamps and candles, share sweets, exchange gifts, and gather for prayers and festivities.
The stories behind Diwali vary across regions—some honor the return of Lord Rama after his exile, others celebrate the goddess of prosperity, Lakshmi—but all share a common spirit of joy, renewal, and togetherness. For many, it is also the start of a new year, symbolizing fresh beginnings.
In Europe, Diwali has become a way to share Indian culture, music, food, and traditions with friends and neighbors, creating a bridge of light that unites communities across cultures.
